Colour Production Pt. 1: Parts Begin to Arrive March 5, 2014 15:08 3 Comments

Since our pre-order campaign ended successfully on February 1, we've been busy gearing up for production. The first phase was ordering parts--three days of sitting at a laptop compiling part numbers, checking availability and pricing, double-checking the shopping carts against the BOMS, triple-checking, getting things wrong, frantically calling distributors to make last-minute part substitutions, and finally writing checks and entering credit card info. Not fun. What was fun was phase two: unpacking and sorting parts. A few days after placing orders, thousands of parts began arriving at DIYRE HQ in Philadelphia. I felt like Scrooge McDuck diving into a pool of gold. There is nothing like opening a box containing 1,000 ICs and knowing they'll soon be amplifying audio signals in studios all over the world! I've posted the pictures below so that you can share in the sick glee I take in bulk components.
