Discrete opamps (DOAs), such as the API 2520, are at the heart of countless pieces of classic gear. Every DOA has it's own tone, from slow and dark to fast and clear. And DOAs are largely responsible for the recognizable sound of many consoles, preamps, etc.

The DOA Colour allows you to plug any DOA into your Palette and tailor the amount of saturation you desire. You can purchase the DOA Colour on its own or bundled with the RED-25 DOA.

So good!

I got the 70s bundle and didn’t know what to expect from this module. It came with the Red-25 OpAmp, and I think I’ll be using this one a lot! To my ear, it adds an immediacy and intensity to the midrange that makes just about everything sound better on subtle settings. The distortion characteristics at higher levels are super usesable as well, to add harmonic glue and such. Love it!

DIYRE’s service is great as well, if you end up needing it.

Putting spare DOAs to good use

DOA colour is a great way to make use of those extra opamps that didn't win as go-to's in preamps. Preliminary blind testing inidcates that to me, at moderate drive, the difference between DOA colour and the CTX with DOA is minimal. Past 12:00 the CTX with DOA begins to have a more controlled low end, while DOA is less subtle in the lows.
