FET-72 German Console Colour

$150.00

  • Assembled

The FET-72 is Locomotive Audio's take on the most legendary tube preamp of all time, the Telefunken® V72®.

The FET-72 takes the classic V72-style tube circuit and puts a solid-state spin on it. By using JFETs instead of vacuum tubes, this module will give you access to the familiar German module sound while giving you plenty of options and flexibility.

When set to “Classic” mode (switches set to NFB and Pentode), the FET-72 sounds most like its vintage inspiration, boasting a big, thick low end and smooth top without sounding dark. By removing negative feedback (switch set to NO NFB), the frequency response will be rounded off, making the low end less pronounced. Set to Triode mode, the high-frequency response will drop subtly, and there will be a smoother transition from clean to distorted when using your Colour Palette’s Drive control. Pentode mode is much more aggressive in nature.

The 4-position “HI CUT” (low pass filter) gives you flexibility when driving the module for a harmonic/thickening effect. Using one of the low pass filters will make the naturally brightened result of added harmonic distortion less pronounced, allowing the user to truly shape their sound to taste.

This definitely Takes U Back !

I'm putting it through its paces and so far it does that 72 thing in a modern way. Vocals sound warm, luscious and creamy and it definitely helps on how they sit in the mix. Highs smooth out nicely on anything you throw at it. Using the Hi-Cut feature on bass is nice and I can only imagine how it would sound with a live bass or tracking one through it. I'll be using this on vocals probably most of the time while mixing but there's gonna be a fight between my vocal and music bus cos when dialed in right on keys and strings it does thicken things up nice while the highs stay smooth and tamed. Ill be reporting back with more info soon but it looks like this will be in all my sessions!

Subtle tube warmth with a little bit of hair!

I am really enjoying this module! It has a very nice way of focusing the source material while adding the right amount of extra warmth. So far it's been killer on bass and drums, but I can't wait to try it out on some vocals!
